Hello,
It has been a very busy summer so far. I have just gotten back from Gold Rush with my Grandson, Zach and had a great time visiting with friends and seeing this wonderful country that God has created for us. I am struggling with writing this state update this month and I apologize for not getting a letter out for last month. GWTA has not met my expectations in the last few weeks and I have just come to the realization that the problem does not lie with GWTA but with me. I joined this club because I just bought a Gold Wing and I was looking for like minded people to share my love of motorcycling with. Kandie and I have been members of GWTA for 12 years now and it amazes me that our members are all so loving and giving of themselves. I think what drives and maintains this club is the members. Things don’t always go my way and it is very easy to fall back into a self pity type of situation and start to doubt why I even bother. I have met some very good people in GWTA like Dave and Bumb, that I can always count on to bring me back into reality. We have all worked very hard to keep GWTA alive and growing. I would like to ask you why you strive to keep your chapter strong. For me it is the friendships I have made and the new friendships I know will come. Do you come to events to be entertained? If so you are missing out on one of the greatest pleasures in life and that is in sharing with others. Do not be afraid to open up to others and give something of yourselves. I have found that when I do give something of myself I get back more than I give. Do you know what makes GWTA so great? If you don’t, let me tell you. It is the fact that we are a member owned and run club. It is up to us to make the difference. That does not mean we stomp our feet and get mad when things don’t go our way, it does mean that we all have a say in how our club is run. You are not the most important person in your chapter. It is “we” that can make the difference. We all must learn to listen to each other and understand why others think differently than ourselves. Kandie and I have been very blessed by the fact that we can call all of you our friends and I count it a privilege to be able to bring my grandkids into this club and know that they are safe and know that Kandie and I do not have to worry about them be subjected to things that a kid should not have to see. As you know Kandie and I both a strong faith in God and it is very important to us that our grandkids see that our choices make a difference in how our life’s turn out. In closing I would like to ask you, what is the most important thing to you in the Gold Wing Touring Association. Is it the bike or the people? Yes I know that this club was founded for people that enjoy the Gold Wing motorcycle but with out the people in this club there would be no club.
